Peace Network Supports Global Call for Prayer, Fasting, and Peace
On October 7, the global community comes together to observe a day of prayer, penance, and fasting for world peace—a call initiated by Pope Francis and echoed by European Bishops and Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. Marking the one-year anniversary of the violent attacks in Israel by Hamas, this day seeks to remember the suffering caused by conflict while urging for lasting peace across the Middle East and beyond.
At Peace Network, we fully support and participate in this movement for peace. We recognize the importance of unity in times of crisis and believe in the power of collective action through prayer and peaceful reflection. As wars rage on and humanitarian crises unfold, we stand with Pope Francis, Cardinal Pizzaballa, and COMECE in their call for a world where dignity, security, and justice are restored for all.
The Role of Prayer in Healing Divided Communities
During his appeal, Pope Francis reminded us of our duty to "put ourselves at the service of humanity" amidst the violence and devastation caused by conflicts around the world. This message resonates with Peace Network’s mission of promoting peace, reconciliation, and humanitarian aid. We encourage our community and all people of goodwill to join this day of reflection and prayer to strengthen the global movement for peace.
The Bishops of the European Union expressed their deep sorrow for the escalating violence, calling for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and respect for international law. Their statement also highlighted the rise of antisemitism, radicalization, and xenophobia—dangers that threaten global social cohesion. At Peace Network, we echo their call to address these divisive issues through peaceful dialogue and action.
Working Toward a Lasting Peace in the Middle East
The bishops' call for peace in the Middle East also emphasizes the need for renewed efforts toward a two-state solution, with a special internationally recognized status for Jerusalem. This is critical for achieving long-term peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Peace Network joins this global appeal for diplomacy, dialogue, and humanitarian aid. We stand by the call for the protection of schools, hospitals, places of worship, and the safe return of hostages. It is crucial that all actors in these conflicts take steps toward reconciliation, ending violence, and building sustainable peace.
