Peace Network Urges Global Solidarity for Gaza Amid Growing Humanitarian Crisis

As the situation in northern Gaza reaches critical levels, Peace Network stands with international aid organizations in condemning the ongoing displacement of Palestinian civilians and calling for urgent humanitarian intervention. On October 6, 2024, Israel issued new mass displacement orders, forcing residents in northern Gaza to flee to the south. This action exacerbates an already dire humanitarian crisis, cutting off the remaining lifelines—such as access to clean water, food, and medical care—for the civilian population.

The UN estimates that 400,000 people remain in northern Gaza, facing impossible decisions: to risk their lives on perilous escape routes or remain in the north under threat of violence. Both options place civilians, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly, in extreme danger. Moreover, overcrowded areas in the south, such as Al-Mawasi, remain insecure with ongoing airstrikes, offering no true safe haven for those fleeing.

The Call for Immediate Action

At Peace Network, we join the chorus of humanitarian voices urging all parties to the conflict to prioritize the protection of civilians. International humanitarian law (IHL) mandates that civilians must be shielded from the violence of war, and humanitarian aid workers must be allowed access to provide life-saving assistance. However, Israel’s expanding displacement orders and military operations in Gaza severely impede these efforts.

Paula Gaviria Betancur, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, has raised concerns about Israel's displacement actions, warning that they violate international law by attempting to permanently alter Gaza’s population. The undersigned aid organizations echo this sentiment, demanding a ceasefire and the urgent scaling up of humanitarian assistance to the besieged population.

Peace Network's Support and Call for Global Participation

Peace Network fully supports the efforts of the signatory organizations, including ActionAid, Oxfam, Save the Children, and many others. Their unwavering commitment to advocating for civilian protection and delivering critical humanitarian aid in the most dangerous and difficult circumstances aligns with our mission to promote peace and human dignity.

We believe that humanitarian crises transcend borders and that global solidarity is essential in moments like this. We call upon our network of supporters, partners, and citizens worldwide to join us in taking action:

  1. Support humanitarian efforts by donating to organizations working on the ground, such as Médecins du Monde and the Norwegian Refugee Council.
  2. Raise awareness about the situation in Gaza through social media, events, and discussions, ensuring that this crisis remains visible on the global stage.
  3. Advocate for political solutions by urging governments and international bodies to uphold IHL and push for a permanent ceasefire that will end the suffering of innocent civilians.

Joining Hands for Gaza

The humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza cannot be ignored. Peace Network urges everyone to participate in these movements, supporting those who are on the front lines of aid and advocacy. Together, we can ensure that the people of Gaza receive the help, protection, and dignity they deserve.

Let us unite in our common humanity, stand for peace, and demand the immediate protection of civilians in Gaza. The time for global action is now.
